Joey Barton defends David Moyes

Queens Park Rangers midfielder Joey Barton insists that David Moyes, who was sacked as head coach of Manchester United this morning, "is a good manager".

Queens Park Rangers midfielder Joey Barton has defended David Moyes, who lost his position as manager of Manchester United earlier this morning.

Rumours of a potential sacking gathered pace on Monday and it was confirmed this morning that the Scot had been relieved of his duties following a disappointing first season in charge.

Barton has claimed that Moyes "is a good manager", but struggled to come to terms with following Sir Alex Ferguson at Old Trafford.

"Still think Moyes is a good manager. Maybe too much too soon Fergie was always a tough act to follow. Surely [Louis] Van Gaal is the logical choice?" Barton tweeted.

Ryan Giggs has been appointed as interim manager at the Premier League champions.
