Manchester United team news: Injury, suspension list vs. Southampton

Sports Mole rounds up Manchester United's latest injury and suspension news ahead of Saturday's Premier League showdown with Southampton.

Manchester United are looking to get back to winning ways after suffering a shock defeat last time out against Crystal Palace.

Jordan Ayew's first-half opener stunned Old Trafford and Palace led until the 89th minute, when Daniel James curled home a late equaliser.

United thought they had snatched a point until Eagles left-back Patrick van Aanholt steered home a 93rd-minute winner to record their first-ever Premier League victory over the Red Devils.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer will have to pick his side up as they turn their attention to their next game against Southampton.

Here, Sports Mole rounds up the latest injury and suspension news for the Red Devils.

Luke Shaw

Status: Major doubt
Type of injury: Thigh
Possible return date: August 31 (vs. Southampton)

Shaw's hamstring injury caused a moment of confusion that allowed Crystal Palace to take the lead against the Red Devils at Old Trafford, with Harry Maguire forced out wide to cover before Ashley Young replaced the left-back. Solskjaer appears hopeful that Shaw can return in time for their next fixture against Southampton, although scans will confirm the full extent of the damage.

Anthony Martial

Status: Major doubt
Type of injury: Thigh
Possible return date: August 31 (vs. Southampton)

Martial is another who faces a race to be fit in time for United's next match. Solskjaer is hoping the Frenchman will be back in training during the week and how he fares in those sessions will likely determine his involvement against the Saints.

Diogo Dalot

Status: Out
Type of injury: Unknown
Possible return date: September 14 (vs. Leicester City)

Solskjaer has confirmed that the right-back's absence from the matchday squad thus far has been due to injury and says the defender should be fit again following the international break.

Alexis Sanchez

Status: Major doubt
Type of injury: Lack of fitness
Possible return date: Unknown

Sanchez's move to Inter Milan appears to be drawing ever nearer, while a lack of match fitness is keeping the Chilean out of the Red Devils squad for the time being.

Eric Bailly

Status: Out
Type of injury: Knee
Possible return date: December 21 (vs. Watford)

Bailly continues to recover from a knee operation that is likely to keep the Ivorian centre-back sidelined until close to Christmas.
