Roberto Mancini was given the largest payoff in British football history when he was sacked as manager of Manchester City, according to a report.

The Mirror claims that the figure was in excess of £10m, at least £3m more than original estimates had suggested was paid to the Italian after he was dismissed from his role at the Etihad Stadium last season.

The report comes as the club's accounts for the year ending May 2013 were released this week, showing that the Blues had paid out £233m in wages - an increase of more than £30m.

A spokesperson for City refused to confirm the payout, citing "confidentiality issues" as the reason for the settlement being not reported specifically in the accounts.

Mancini is currently in charge of Turkish side Galatasaray, who face Chelsea in the last 16 of the Champions League later this month.
