Report: Javi Garcia came close to Atletico Madrid move

Atletico Madrid were keen on signing Manchester City midfielder Javi Garcia on transfer deadline day, according to a report.

Manchester City midfielder Javi Garcia was a deadline-day target for La Liga side Atletico Madrid, according to a report.

However, the move fell through because City failed to complete the signing of Fernando from Porto, SportsDirectNews.com claims.

Manuel Pellegrini's side also wanted to sell Garcia on a permanent deal, while Atletico preferred a loan agreement.

Garcia joined City from Benfica in 2012.
