Vincent Kompany: 'England will boast world's best side one day'

Manchester City defender Vincent Kompany believes that impressive academy facilities in England will lead to the Three Lions boasting the world's best side in the future.

Manchester City defender Vincent Kompany has predicted that England will reign supreme on the world stage again one day, despite recently slipping down to 15th in the FIFA rankings.

The Three Lions have largely struggled to make an impact at major tournaments since prevailing at the 1966 World Cup on home soil, while English clubs have also dropped down the pecking order in European competition.

Despite the recent woes for Premier League sides in the Champions League, Kompany is confident that they will each come good in the coming years.

"English teams have had a bit of a setback in recent years in terms of quality," he is quoted as saying by The Mirror. "But England will catch up because they have more funds than any other country.

"Developments like the academy at City will eventually produce incredible talent. Other clubs are also spending lots of money to develop their own talent, but it does take time to come through.

"I think there will be a day when England have the best league in the world and the best national team because they will have the most money and the best facilities."

Kompany made 33 appearances for the Citizens last season, including in both legs of their knockout round defeat to Barcelona in Europe.
