Rio Ferdinand: 'Vincent Kompany has a point to prove this season'

Rio Kompany believes that Vincent Kompany will have a point to prove for Manchester City this season.

Rio Ferdinand has suggested that Manchester City captain Vincent Kompany is ready to "prove people wrong" this season.

The City skipper was generally considered to be below par last term as they finished eight points behind eventual champions Chelsea, but ex-Manchester United centre-back Ferdinand thinks that the Belgium international will have a point to prove this campaign.

Ferdinand told BT Sport: "He looks like he's ready to prove people wrong and looks like he's ready to make a statement and run.

"He looks like he's playing with intensity with that look in his eye. Kompany has always said how City have had tough draws in the Champions League before, but they've got to put that behind them and make a statement in the competition this season."

Manuel Pellegrini's side are unbeaten this term and currently top the Premier League table.
