Christian Benteke has claimed that Vincent Kompany's quality will lead him to becoming the "world's greatest defender" in the future.
The Manchester City captain has impressed ever since moving to the Premier League in 2008 and Benteke is in no doubt as to how his Belgium teammate will be viewed at the end of his playing career.
"Everyone knows Vincent is one of the best defenders in Europe," said the Aston Villa striker. "But he is still only 26 and well on the way to becoming the world's greatest defender.
"He is good enough and young enough to become the best there is because his attitude is perfect and he always works hard to improve his game."
Benteke could face Kompany when Villa travel to the Etihad Stadium in the Capital One Cup on Tuesday evening.
