Brighton & Hove Albion vs. Manchester City: Head-to-head record and past meetings

Ahead of Saturday's Premier League clash between Brighton & Hove Albion and Man City, Sports Mole looks at the head-to-head record and previous meetings between the two clubs.

Brighton & Hove Albion and Manchester City will be looking to return to winning ways when they lock horns at the Amex Stadium for a Premier League clash on Saturday afternoon.

The Seagulls enter this contest after losing back-to-back games against Liverpool in the EFL Cup and Premier League, including a 2-1 defeat at Anfield last weekend.

Meanwhile, Pep Guardiola's side have suffered three defeats in a row for the first time since April 2018, most recently losing 4-1 away against Sporting Lisbon in the Champions League on Tuesday.

Seven points and six places separate Brighton in eighth and Man City in second in the Premier League table, and ahead of this weekend's encounter, Sports Mole takes an in-depth look at the head-to-head record and previous meetings between the two sides.

Head-to-head record

Previous meetings: 32
Brighton wins: 6
Draws: 5
Man City wins: 21

Brighton & Hove Albion and Manchester City have faced each other a total of 32 times across all competitions, with the Citizens leading the overall head-to-head record having posted 21 wins to the Seagulls' six, while there have been five draws played out between the two clubs.

The very first meeting between these two teams took place back in February 1924 when Man City cruised to a 5-1 away victory in the FA Cup third round en route to reaching the semi-finals.

Fifty-five years passed before the two sides locked horns again in the old Division One and they faced each other regularly up until 1989, with Man City winning seven and Brighton winning four of their 14 meetings in all competitions.

The Seagulls scored four goals in three of their victories during this period, including a 4-0 home win in the FA Cup fourth round in January 1983 - their biggest win over Man City to date.

In the Premier League era (since 1992-93), Man City have dominated this fixture with 10 victories and one draw in 12 top-flight encounters against Brighton, collecting 37 points from a possible 42 available in the process.

At the time of writing, Brighton have conceded more Premier League goals against Man City (40) than they have against any other opponent, failing to keep a single clean sheet in all 14 top-flight meetings.

Brighton's only triumph against Man City to date was under former boss Graham Potter in May 2021 when the Seagulls secured a 3-2 home win, courtesy of goals from Leandro Trossard, Adam Webster and Dan Burn.

Man City most recently beat Brighton 4-0 at the Amex in April 2024, while their biggest-ever win over the Seagulls is their 5-0 away victory at the same stadium in July 2020.

Phil Foden is the highest-scoring player in this fixture with eight goals in 10 Premier League games for Man City, while ex-Citizens striker Sergio Aguero is next on the list with five goals.
