Yaya Toure left out of Manchester City Champions League squad

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola leaves Yaya Toure out of his squad for the group stages of the Champions League.

Yaya Toure has been left out of Manchester City's squad for the Champions League group stages.

The 33-year-old was heavily linked with a move away from the Etihad Stadium during the summer transfer window, but ended up staying at the club despite falling out of favour under Pep Guardiola.

Guardiola, who sold Toure to City during his time in charge of Barcelona, is yet to hand the Ivorian any playing time in the Premier League this season, with his only action coming during the second leg of their Champions League playoff against Steaua Bucuresti.

However, the midfielder will not feature in the group stages of the competition having been omitted from the squad, with Guardiola only able to include 17 overseas players.

City currently have 18 overseas players on their books, and Toure was the one to miss out, with the likes of Leroy Sane, Ilkay Gundogan and Vincent Kompany - all of whom are yet to play this season - among those included.

Man City squad for Champions League group stages:

Claudio Bravo, Willy Caballero; Bacary Sagna, Vincent Kompany, Pablo Zabaleta, Aleksandar Kolarov, Gael Clichy, John Stones, Nicolas Otamendi; Fernando, Raheem Sterling, Ilkay Gundogan, Jesus Navas, Kevin De Bruyne, Fabian Delph, Leroy Sane, David Silva, Fernandinho; Nolito, Sergio Aguero, Kelechi Iheanacho
