Graeme Souness slams Carlos Tevez as a "disgrace to football" after refusing to play for Manchester City against Bayern Munich.

Former Liverpool midfielder Graeme Souness slammed Manchester City’s Carlos Tevez as a “disgrace to football” after the striker refused to play in Munich.

The Argentina international was called on to play in the second half of the Blues' 2-0 defeat to Bayern Munich in the Champions League group match.

Despite being requested from the bench, City boss Roberto Mancini confirmed that the 27-year-old refused to play and will never feature for the Premier League side again.

"[Tevez] is one bad apple," Souness said. "He can undo all the good work that has been done [at City].

“He's a disgrace to football. He epitomises what most people think is wrong with modern football. It is totally unacceptable. He's a football player and he is paid to play."

The football pundit believes that the striker’s actions could prove too much for Mancini to handle.

"That would cause you to walk away from the job,” he added. “How can you deal with players acting like that?"

Meanwhile, Tevez has since issued a statement claiming that he never refused to play and offers his apologies to the City supporters.
