Preview: Livingston vs. Dundee - prediction, team news, lineups

Sports Mole previews Sunday's Scottish Premiership clash between Livingston and Dundee, including predictions, team news and possible lineups.

Livingston will be looking to continue their fine finish to the Scottish Premiership season when they welcome already-relegated Dundee to the Tony Macaroni Arena on Sunday.

Neither side have anything left to play for on the final day however, with the hosts looking to secure seventh place, and the visitors having seen their relegation to the Scottish Championship confirmed in recent weeks.

Since the division split in half last month, Livingston have enjoyed an unbeaten spell of four matches, and five overall, with back-to-back wins over Aberdeen and Hibernian being followed by successive draws with St Johnstone and St Mirren.

As a result, Sunday's hosts head into the final day in seventh place in the table, and with a three-point advantage, as well as a superior goal difference, being held over St Mirren, David Martindale's side have all but guaranteed their highest possible finish in the bottom half.

Livingston faced the Buddies last time out, with a goalless draw being played out at St Mirren Park on Wednesday evening, in what turned out to be a rather dull affair.

Livi will be out to extend their unbeaten finish to the season on Sunday though, and after taking seven points off their opponents in their three previous meetings this season, the home faithful will be expectant at the Tony Macaroni Arena.

After not conceding a goal in any of those encounters either, Martindale will also be hopeful of concluding the campaign with an impressive 11th clean sheet of the 2021-22 season.

Meanwhile, Dundee have nothing left to play for other than pride when they visit Livingston on Sunday.

The Dark Blues saw their relegation to the Scottish Championship confirmed in recent weeks during a 12-game winless streak across all competitions.

However, Mark McGhee's side ended that poor run by seeing off struggling Hibernian by a 3-1 scoreline in the final home game of the season at Dens Park on Tuesday night.

Niall McGinn and Josh Mulligan got the goals either side of James Scott's equaliser for Hibs, before the experienced Charlie Adam came off the bench to net a late goal to seal an impressive three points.

The positive result may well have been too little too late for the division's bottom side, but it at least provided some cheer in a season of doom and gloom for the Dundee supporters, and that is exactly what McGhee's men will be out to achieve on the final day too.

Team News

Livingston must do without top goalscorer Bruce Anderson once again on the final day, with the 11-goal striker having been ruled out due to an ongoing ankle injury that has seen him miss the last two months.

Alan Forrest is next on the goalscorer's list with just five in the Scottish Premiership, but the burden will fall on his shoulders against Dundee, as well as Joel Nouble, who is likely to continue leading the line.

Goalkeeper Daniel Barden has been unavailable for some time due to cancer, and the youngster is joined on the sidelines by the injured defender Tom Parkes.

As for the visitors, first-choice goalkeeper Adam Legzdins is unlikely to return from the knee injury that has ruled him out of action for the last three months.

Harrison Sharp has displaced Ian Lawlor in between the posts in recent weeks, and McGhee is likely to stick with the 21-year-old on Sunday.

Defender Lee Ashcroft is also out of the final game of the season, meaning the Dundee boss is unlikely to tinker too much from the side that won impressively in midweek.

Livingston possible starting lineup:
Konovalov; Devlin, Fitzwater, Obileye, Boyes; Kelly, Holt; Shinnie, Pitman, Forrest; Nouble

Dundee possible starting lineup:
Sharp; Kerr, J McGhee, Sweeney, Marshall; Adam; McCowan, Mulligan, Byrne, McGinn; Rudden

SM words green background

We say: Livingston 2-0 Dundee

Despite the visitors impressing in their victory over Hibernian in midweek, we can see the hosts strolling to a comfortable victory on Sunday.

Livingston are a tough side to play against at the Tony Macaroni Arena, and come into the final game on a strong run of form, so they should come out on top against bottom-of-the-table Dundee to finish the season on an impressive unbeaten run.
