Liverpool are reportedly considering a bid to re-sign Steven Gerrard on loan next January, if the outgoing midfielder moves to Major League Soccer as expected.
The Reds confirmed that the 34-year-old would not be extending his stay with the club beyond the end of the season and will not be joining a team in direct competition with the Merseyside outfit.
Several reports have linked the former England captain with a switch to the United States with both Los Angeles Galaxy and New York Red Bulls among the mooted destinations for Gerrard, but The Telegraph claims that Liverpool are open to the possibility of a possible short-term return during the MLS off-season.
The club's American owners, Fenway Sports Group, are also believed to be keen on bringing the former international back to Anfield in a future coaching role.
Gerrard scored twice from the penalty spot in Liverpool's 2-2 draw with struggling Leicester City on Thursday.
