Liverpool have reportedly had their opening bid for Croatia international Domagoj Vida rejected by Besiktas.
The Reds are understood to have lodged an €18m (£15.9m) bid for the centre-back, who has impressed alongside current Liverpool player Dejan Lovren at this summer's World Cup.
Jurgen Klopp is in the market for defensive reinforcements ahead of the 2018-19 season and is thought to have identified Vida as his number one target.
However, 90min.com reports that Liverpool are still some way short of Besiktas's valuation of the player, with the Turkish outfit holding out for a bid closer to €35m (£31m).
Vida only joined Besiktas on a free transfer from Dynamo Kiev in January, but the club are willing to let him leave this summer if they receive a significant offer.
The likes of Fulham, Everton and West Ham United have also been linked with the 29-year-old, but are likely to be put off by the asking price.
