Liverpool 'could welcome Naby Keita this month'

Liverpool are reportedly given encouragement that they could bring in Naby Keita from RB Leipzig earlier than expected, although they would have to pay a substantial extra fee.

Liverpool have reportedly been given indication that they could bring in Naby Keita from RB Leipzig before the transfer window shuts if they stump up extra cash.

Last summer the Reds agreed a deal worth a reported £55m to bring the 22-year-old to Anfield in July 2018 but are believed to be keen to bring forward his official start date to this month.

Leipzig have previously ruled out a mid-season switch for the youngster but according to a report in Bild, the Bundesliga outfit have now softened their stance.

The newspaper claims that Leipzig would be willing to release Keita early should Jurgen Klopp's side pay an additional fee of between €15m (£13.3m) and €20m (£17.7m) - funds that would not only allow them the chance to strengthen but also help them comply with UEFA's Financial Fair Play rules.

Keita was a key part of Leipzig's unlikely title charge last season, with eight goals and seven assists in 29 Bundesliga appearances, but he has just two goals in 12 outings for the side so far this term.
