Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp: 'I have final say on transfers'

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp insists that he has final say on transfers, but does consult with staff.

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has insisted that new players will only arrive at the club if he gives the green light.

The Merseyside outfit's transfer committee came under criticism during Brendan Rodgers's spell at Anfield.

The club spent over £200m on new recruits between the time Rodgers joined in the summer of 2012 and when the Irishman was sacked in October last year.

This month, the club have signed Red Star Belgrade player Marko Grujic, who will join up with Liverpool at the end of the season, and Steven Caulker on loan from Queens Park Rangers.

When asked by reporters if he has final say on transfers, Klopp said: "Yes, but does anybody have the final say? For example, say I wanted to take Zlatan Ibrahimovic and we have to pay £100m plus a big contract at 35 I think I would have to ask first.

"Sometimes my staff and I have an idea about a player, then we collect information and then we have players our scouts bring in and we speak about it.

"If I don't want a player to come here then he will not come. If a player I want doesn't fit our budget then he will not come to. It's a normal situation."

Meanwhile, goalkeeper Simon Mignolet extended his stay at Anfield by signing a new five-year contract.
