Netherlands midfielder Georginio Wijnaldum reportedly held 'positive talks' with Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp on Wednesday.

Georginio Wijnaldum reportedly held 'positive talks' with Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp on Wednesday, with the midfielder keen to stay at Anfield despite recent speculation.

The Netherlands international will see his current deal with the Premier League champions expire next summer, and Barcelona have been strongly linked with his services in recent weeks.

However, according to Sky Sports News, Wijnaldum wants to stay with the Reds and is hopeful that he will be offered a new contract as a result of the meeting with Klopp on Wednesday.

The 29-year-old has been a vital player for Liverpool since arriving from Newcastle United in 2016, making 187 appearances in all competitions, contributing 19 goals and 16 assists in the process.

Wijnaldum played the full 90 minutes against Arsenal in the Community Shield at the end of last month and could be in line to start Saturday's Premier League clash with Leeds United.

The news is expected to come as a blow to new Barca boss Ronald Koeman, who is allegedly desperate to bring the Dutchman to Camp Nou before the end of the transfer window.
