Jamie Carragher excited by Liverpool transfer business

Former Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher hails the transfer business of under-fire boss Brendan Rodgers, although he believes another new striker needs to be signed.

Jamie Carragher has praised former club Liverpool for their shrewd transfer business so far this summer.

The Reds have already moved to bring in James Milner and Adam Bogdan on free contracts, while Roberto Firmino, Danny Ings and Joe Gomez followed in close pursuit.

Carragher predicted some big spending at Liverpool, and with Southampton's Nathaniel Clyne expected to complete a £13.5m switch of his own in the coming days, the ex-England international was quick to hail boss Brendan Rodgers.

"I saw Nathaniel Clyne at St Mary's after a game last season and told him to sign for LFC - he took my advice!" he wrote on Kicca. "I think it's another good signing for the club to go along with the other business already done.

"The early deals were a couple of squad players (Ings and Bogdan) and also James Milner, who are all an improvement on what's currently in the squad.

"The last week has seen the signings of Clyne & Firmino, which will improve the team more than the squad and that's what costs the big money. Credit to the club for getting these deals done early as every club wants to do that but few do. Another striker still needed though!"

Liverpool, who finished a disappointing sixth in the Premier League last season, kick off their new campaign away at Stoke City on August 8.
