Brendan Rodgers to keep tinkering with Liverpool defence

Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers has claimed that he will continue to tinker with his defence heading into the festive fixtures.

Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers has admitted that he will continue rotating his defence all the way up until the New Year.

The Merseyside outfit adopted a system with a defensive back three, including Kolo Toure, Martin Skrtel and Mamadou Sakho, for a number of matches earlier in the season.

However, Rodgers returned to a traditional back four in the Reds' 4-0 win over Fulham last weekend, which resulted in Daniel Agger coming in for Toure.

Sakho also dropped to the bench as Martin Skrtel, Glen Johnson and Aly Cissokho made up the rest of the defensive line at Anfield.

"The players are working very well and very hard on a daily basis but I need to give oxygen to some players, so they can see a light at the end of the tunnel," the Liverpool Echo quotes Rodgers as saying.

"It is important that I use the players well. Kolo has been sensational since he has been in but Daniel Agger is a top player. I just need to balance the team out when I can."

Liverpool are currently second in the Premier League table, two points adrift of leaders Arsenal.
