Brendan Rodgers says the Liverpool's display against Manchester City proves that they can compete at the top once again.

Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers has insisted that his side's performance against Manchester City is evidence that the club can compete at the top once again.

The Reds twice led during their 2-2 draw at home to the Premier League champions and arguably controlled most of the match.

A Martin Skrtel error gifted Carlos Tevez a late equaliser for City, but despite this Rodgers is still confident that Liverpool can turn their recent fortunes around.

"Hopefully it will be a point gained for us rather than two dropped at the end of the season," Rodgers said. "Manchester City are an outstanding team and they arrived having won last weekend and having great confidence.

"I think today, without the points, we were the winners in relation to that performance and we come out of it with a lot of credit.

"That gives us great hope going forward. The supporters were absolutely phenomenal and if we stay together like that right through the season then hopefully we can keep clawing our way back to the top of the division."

Liverpool host Arsenal next Sunday.
