Nigeria have reportedly made an attempt to persuade Liverpool winger Jordon Ibe to represent them at international level.
Ibe has represented England at every youth level apart from Under-21s, and it was rumoured that Roy Hodgson was considering fast-tracking him into the senior squad last season after he broke into the Liverpool side.
However, The Mirror claims that England face a fight to retain the services of the 19-year-old after Nigerian officials met with him at Liverpool's Melwood training centre on Wednesday.
Ibe, who qualifies for Nigeria through his father, has not commented on whether he would be willing to switch allegiances, but England could respond by handing him a place in the squad in the near future.
Brendan Rodgers used Ibe 12 times in the Premier League last season and he is contention to start the season opener against Stoke City at the weekend.
