Newcastle United manager Steve McClaren: 'Liverpool can win title'

Steve McClaren states that Liverpool are capable of winning this season's Premier League title under the guidance of new manager Jurgen Klopp.

Newcastle United manager Steve McClaren has stated that Liverpool can win the Premier League title this season under Jurgen Klopp's guidance.

McClaren's side welcome Klopp's team to St James' Park on Sunday, with the German stating that the Reds are wary of the threat posed by the Magpies.

The Guardian quotes McClaren as saying: "Brendan Rodgers signed some very talented players at Anfield and Jurgen's just taken it on and given them belief. I think they're genuine title contenders.

"Daniel Sturridge's return from injury is really boosting them and the league is so open this season that they can win it."

A win for 19th-placed Newcastle in the St James' Park showdown will move them ahead of local rivals Sunderland in the Premier League table.
