Liverpool defender Dejan Lovren hails Mohamed Salah as a "superstar" after netting 43 goals for the Reds in all competitions this season.

Dejan Lovren has insisted that Liverpool teammate Mohamed Salah 'deserves even more praise' for his goalscoring form in his first campaign at Anfield.

The Egyptian forward is now on 43 goals for the season after netting twice in the 5-2 win over former club Roma in the Champions League this week.

Salah is seen as a strong contender for the Ballon d'Or award, which has been dominated by Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi for the past decade, and Lovren has no doubt that the 25-year-old warrants being held in such high regard.

"He is the one. He is becoming a superstar. It looks easy what he does but it is very difficult," he told reporters after Salah's latest impressive display, which also included a couple of assists.

"If he continues like that - I don't know if this is the right time to put pressure on him - but I believe he should be regarded as one of the best three in the world at the end of the year.

"He deserves to be mentioned for the Ballon d'Or - when people talk about Messi and Ronaldo they should also talk about Salah. He deserves the credit but I think he deserves even more to be honest."

Salah requires just four more goals to equal Ian Rush's long-standing record of 47 in a single season.
