Brad Jones dedicates penalty save to son's memory

Brad Jones dedicates his penalty save against Blackburn Rovers to his late six-year-old son, who died of leukemia in November.

Liverpool goalkeeper Brad Jones has dedicated his penalty save at Ewood Park to the memory of his son.

The Australian stopper's first task after replacing Alexander Doni was to deny Yakubu scoring from the spot.

After making the save, Jones, whose six-year-old boy Luca tragically died of leukemia in November, pointed to the heavens in a sign of tribute.

"It has been a difficult 18 months with my son passing away," admitted Jones. "That was for him."

Jones said that facing penalties from Yakubu in Middlesbrough training sessions helped him save the spot kick.

"What was going through my mind? Many a Friday on the training pitch with Yakubu at Middlesbrough," he added.

"On Fridays we used to practise penalties a lot so I knew his style and luckily made the save."

Liverpool went on to win the match against Blackburn Rovers.
