Ray Houghton: 'Kenny Dalglish is back where he belongs'

Former Liverpool midfielder Ray Houghton says that Kenny Dalglish is "back where he belongs" after the 62-year-old was appointed as a non-executive board member.

Former Liverpool midfielder Ray Houghton has said that Kenny Dalglish is "back where he belongs" after the 62-year-old joined the Liverpool board as a non-executive director yesterday.

Dalglish played for the club between 1977 and 1990 and also managed the Reds for six seasons from 1985, and is widely regarded as one of Liverpool's greatest ever players.

He returned to Anfield to manage Liverpool for a second spell from 2011 to 2012, before being replaced by current boss Brendan Rodgers.

"He is Mr Liverpool, isn't he?" Houghton told Talksport. "He has been here as a player and he was absolutely unbelievable.

"He was my manager and won the double as a player-coach and went on to do great things. He came back for a second spell which didn't quite work out the way he wanted it to, but Liverpool is in his blood.

"You only have to sit and listen to him for a few seconds you know how much the club means to him, so I'm delighted he's back. He's back where he belongs."

Dalglish insisted yesterday that his return to the club will not hinder Rodgers.
