Joe Gomez: 'I couldn't turn down Liverpool move'

Liverpool defender Joe Gomez admits that he could not turn down a move to the club from Charlton Athletic.

Joe Gomez has revealed that it was impossible for him to turn down a move to Liverpool.

The 18-year-old defender joined the Premier League club from Charlton Athletic in June.

Gomez has earned plenty of plaudits during his fledgling career at Anfield, and the youngster admits that he is enjoying the step up to the top tier of English football.

"It has been surprising for me," he told TheFA.com. "In the last year, I got the chance to play for Charlton, which was a great experience for me and then, off the back of that season, I had the opportunity to go to Liverpool. That was something which I really couldn't turn down and I've enjoyed it.

"They've made it really easy for me to settle in, but having that season playing first-team football in the Championship helped me prepare myself to go to Liverpool."

The Reds are back in Premier League action on September 12 when they travel to rivals Manchester United in the Premier League.
