Steven Gerrard "won't lose sleep" over Sir Alex Ferguson jibe

Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard insists that he takes no notice of comments from Sir Alex Ferguson in his recent autobiography, which claim that he is not a top player.

Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard has insisted that he will not take any notice of comments made by Sir Alex Ferguson in his autobiography, in which he claimed that the Reds skipper was overrated.

Ferguson stated that Gerrard "was not a top, top player" in his latest book, despite trying to lure the England midfielder away from Anfield on more than one occasion.

Gerrard has revealed that he remains a fan of Ferguson despite the comments, preferring to focus on the thoughts of current coaches for club and country Brendan Rodgers and Roy Hodgson.

He told the Daily Mail: "Listen, he's entitled to his opinion. I'm a fan of his, he is one of the best managers in the world. I won't lose any sleep over it.

"Throughout my career I have had praise from all types of people, including him, and I am not vain enough to take it all. I have had some unbelievable praise from him and he tried to buy me, certainly on one occasion. Maybe even two.

"For me, the most important thing is what Brendan Rodgers and Roy Hodgson are thinking. I think they are really pleased with me and that is all I will worry about. 107 caps isn't bad for someone who isn't "a top, top player", is it?"

The 33-year-old is fighting to be fit for England's friendly double header against Chile and Germany this week, as he manages a persistent hip injury.
