Luis Enrique: 'Amazing Steven Gerrard can play until 50 years old'

Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard could maintain his ability on the ball until 50 years of age, according to his teammate Luis Enrique.

Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard has the quality and desire to keep playing until whatever age he likes, according to his teammate Luis Enrique.

Gerrard has been deployed in a deeper role by Reds boss Brendan Rodgers in the last 18 months and helped his side secure a 4-0 win over Fulham last weekend with an all-action display.

He told The Mirror: "He has been playing fantastic like always. He's our captain and he's been really, really important for us.

"When you get older, you lose something physically and when he was playing with Fernando Torres, he was more behind the striker, making runs. Now he plays deeper, keeps more of the ball and works differently.

"But the quality of the passes and the crosses he produces, and the free-kicks, at 50 years of age, he will still be doing the same thing! He will always have that and his quality is amazing."

Liverpool moved second in the Premier League table with Saturday's success against Fulham, closing the gap on leaders Arsenal to two points.
