Liverpool boss Kenny Dalglish is delighted with his players after their 2-1 Carling Cup third round win against Brighton.

Liverpool manager Kenny Dalglish has said that he is delighted with his players after their 2-1 win at Brighton in the Carling Cup third round.

The Reds had entered the match having lost their previous game 4-0 against Tottenham Hotspur in the league, but goals from Craig Bellamy and Dirk Kuyt ensured their return to winning ways.

"For us, it was a fantastic response to what happened to us on Sunday - we're delighted," the Scot told Sky Sports News.

"Liverpool, in the first half, played some fantastic football. In the second half, Brighton had most of the play but Pepe (Reina) didn't have much of a save to make."

Dalglish was also full of praise for their south coast opponents, whose late goal from Ashley Barnes set up a tense finish.

"I've great respect for Brighton, what Gus Poyet has achieved, and we wish them well for the season," he added.

The Merseyside club resume their Premier League campaign on Saturday at home to Wolverhampton Wanderers.
