Liverpool midfielder Alexis Mac Allister has his red card from Saturday's 3-1 Premier League win over Bournemouth overturned on appeal.

Liverpool midfielder Alexis Mac Allister has seen his red card from Saturday's 3-1 win over Bournemouth overturned on appeal.

The Reds came from behind to clinch their first victory of the season at Anfield, as Luis Diaz, Mohamed Salah and Diogo Jota cancelled out Antoine Semenyo's opener.

However, with Jurgen Klopp's side leading 2-1 in the second half, Mac Allister was controversially given a straight red card for a tackle on Bournemouth's Ryan Christie as both men went for the ball.

Mac Allister's challenge was seen as serious foul play by referee Thomas Bramall, while VAR officials Paul Tierney and Constantine Hatzidakis saw no need to overturn the decision.

Despite seeing out the final 30 minutes with 10 men, Liverpool capped off their opening win through Jota moments after Mac Allister's sending off, which would have seen the Argentine serve a three-match ban.

Mac Allister would have therefore sat out contests with Newcastle United, Aston Villa and Wolverhampton Wanderers, but Klopp hinted that his side would appeal the decision after the game.

Now, a statement from the FA has confirmed that Liverpool's appeal was successful, and Mac Allister's red card and subsequent three-game suspension has been rescinded.

"An independent Regulatory Commission has removed Alexis Mac Allister's three-match suspension following a claim of wrongful dismissal," the statement read.

"The Liverpool midfielder was sent off for serious foul play during their Premier League game against Bournemouth on Saturday, 19 August."

Mac Allister has immediately cemented his place as a regular starter for the Reds since joining from Brighton & Hove Albion in the summer, featuring from the first whistle in both of their Premier League games this term so far.

Following the 24-year-old's sending off against Bournemouth, Wataru Endo came on for his Liverpool debut, only one day after his arrival from Stuttgart was confirmed.

Fulham's Tim Ream, Wolverhampton Wanderers' Matheus Nunes, West Ham United's Nayef Aguerd and Arsenal's Takehiro Tomiyasu were also given red cards in the latest round of Premier League fixtures.
