Liverpool reportedly plan to appeal the red card that was handed to Alexis Mac Allister during Saturday's 3-1 victory over Bournemouth.

Liverpool reportedly intend to appeal the sending off of Alexis Mac Allister during Saturday's victory over Bournemouth.

The Merseyside giants were able to record their first Premier League win of the season as they posted a 3-1 triumph over the Cherries at Anfield.

Jurgen Klopp watched his side overcome an early deficit as goals from Luis Diaz, Mohamed Salah and Diogo Jota proved to be the difference on Merseyside.

However, shortly before the hour mark, Liverpool were reduced to 10 men when Mac Allister was handed a straight red card by referee Thomas Bramall.

While Mac Allister made contact with Ryan Christie and the foul awarded was justified, it appeared more of a collision and a natural footballing incident rather than a dangerous challenge.

After the game, Klopp acknowledged that consideration would be given to trying to overturning the decision, while opposite number Andoni Iraola suggested that 'it did not look like a red card' in real time.

As it stands, Mac Allister faces the prospect of a three-match ban which would rule him out of fixtures against Newcastle United, Aston Villa and Wolverhampton Wanderers.

As per The Mirror, it now appears that Liverpool will put forward an official appeal to the Football Association in the hope of having the call rescinded.

Mac Allister had been playing in the most defensive-minded position of a midfield three for the second game in succession, a role that he is not necessarily accustomed to.

Klopp may have considered handing Waturu Endo an immediate debut had the Japan international received international clearance sooner than he did.

Nevertheless, the former Stuttgart man was able to make his first outing from the substitutes' bench, effectively taking Mac Allister's role once the World Cup winner had been sent off.

In 19 top-flight fixtures this season, there have already been five red cards, with Anass Zaroury, Tim Ream, Matheus Nunes and Nayef Aguerd all being dismissed for their respective sides.
