Liverpool goalkeeper Alisson Becker making "steady progress" in injury recovery

Liverpool confirm that goalkeeper Alisson Becker is making "steady progress" in his recovery from a calf injury but refuse to put a date on his return to the team.

Liverpool goalkeeper Alisson Becker is making "steady progress" in his recovery from a calf injury but still has no date set for his return.

The Brazilian shot-stopper was forced off less than 40 minutes into the new season when he tweaked his calf while kicking the ball during Liverpool's season opener against Norwich City.

Alisson was initially expected to miss around six weeks, and goalkeeping coach John Achterberg has confirmed that he is back on the training pitch but insists that they will not rush the 26-year-old into first-team action.

"Ali has been working with Dave [Rydings] in the gym a lot to improve the strength and try to keep the fitness levels up," Achterberg told Liverpool's official website.

"In the last few days he has been out on the pitch to do some catching and footwork, as well as small passing drills.

"He has made steady progress, but it is difficult to say how long it will take or how it will progress. It needs time and we cannot look too far ahead, so we take each day as it comes, see how he feels, and then make progress from that."

Alisson's injury has so far not affected Liverpool's form, with four wins from four before the first international break of the season and back-up keeper Adrian registering his first clean sheet for the club last time out.
