Liverpool team news: Injury, suspension list vs. Newcastle United

Sports Mole rounds up Liverpool's latest injury and suspension news ahead of Saturday's Premier League fixture against Newcastle United.

Liverpool play host to Newcastle United on Saturday afternoon looking for a much-needed victory in their bid to finish in the top four of the Premier League table.

After 24 hours of off-the-field distractions, Jurgen Klopp's side were held to a 1-1 draw by Leeds United on Monday night, keeping the club behind the likes of West Ham United and Chelsea.

At a time when talk of the European Super League will inevitably undermine any action on the pitch, Klopp must also contend with a mounting injury list as he prepares to square off against the Magpies.

Here, Sports Mole rounds up all of Liverpool's latest injury and suspension news before they welcome the North-East outfit to Anfield.

Jordan Henderson

Status: Out
Type of injury: Groin
Possible return date: Unknown

Henderson has been on the sidelines since the end of February due to a groin injury, and it is currently unclear when the England international will be available for selection once again.

Joel Matip

Status: Out
Type of injury: Ankle
Possible return date: Unknown

Liverpool revealed at the start of February that Matip will be out for the remainder of the season due to a serious ankle problem.

Joe Gomez

Status: Out
Type of injury: Knee
Possible return date: Unknown

Gomez picked up a serious knee injury while away with England last November and has been on the sidelines since. The centre-back is making progress, but he is unlikely to play again this season.

Virgil van Dijk

Status: Out
Type of injury: Knee
Possible return date: Unknown

Liverpool have been without Van Dijk since October due to a serious knee injury. The Netherlands international continues to make strides forward in his recovery, but it is unlikely that he will be able to figure for the first team before the end of the 2020-21 campaign.

Caoimhin Kelleher

Status: Minor doubt
Type of injury: Abdominal
Possible return date: April 24 (vs. Newcastle)

Backup goalkeeper Kelleher has been absent from the substitutes' bench for recent matches because of an abdominal issue. As it stands, it is unclear when the Irishman will return to the squad.

Divock Origi

Status: Major doubt
Type of injury: Muscular
Possible return date: April 24 (vs. Newcastle)

Despite his return to the squad seemingly being imminent, Origi has not featured on the substitutes' bench for a number of weeks. At best, the Belgium international will only be named among the replacements if he is considered fit for selection.

Curtis Jones

Status: Minor doubt
Type of injury: Muscular
Possible return date: April 24 (vs. Newcastle)

Despite insisting that Jones only missed the recent Aston Villa fixture as a precaution, two more matches have passed by without the playmaker returning to the squad. It remains unclear when the 20-year-old will be available for selection.

Nathaniel Phillips

Status: Major doubt
Type of injury: Hamstring
Possible return date: April 24 (vs. Newcastle)

Phillips missed out against Leeds due to what has been described as a minor hamstring injury. While the defender may be back in contention at the weekend, he is unlikely to feature in the starting lineup.
