John Aldridge slams "awful" Liverpool

John Aldridge blasts former club Liverpool for their performance in their FA Cup semi-final defeat to Aston Villa.

John Aldridge has claimed that former club Liverpool were "awful" during their FA Cup semi-final defeat to Aston Villa.

The Reds saw their hopes of ending the season with a trophy dashed on Sunday as they were beaten 2-1 at Wembley Stadium.

Following a disappointing day for the club, Aldridge concedes that they were not good enough to win the tie.

"Grim, awful, desperate, shocking. No word is too harsh I'm afraid," the 56-year-old told the Liverpool Echo. "What a nightmare of a day for Liverpool. Let's not pretend there was anything unlucky about the defeat, there wasn't... it was a terrible performance.

"Liverpool's season was on the line on Sunday, but you'd never have guessed it from the way they played. It was the kind of performance you see from a team towards the end of the season, when they have nothing to play for."

Brendan Rodgers's side continue their Premier League campaign on Saturday when they travel to West Bromwich Albion.
