Scotland assistant coach John Carver provides an injury update on Andrew Robertson and Lawrence Shankland, who both limped out of first-team training on Monday morning.

Scotland assistant coach John Carver has issued an injury update on star defender Andrew Robertson, who limped out of first-team training on Monday morning.

Steve Clarke's 26-man squad boarded a plane and arrived in Germany on Sunday evening before taking part in an open training session in the Stadion am Groben in Garmisch-Partenkirchen on Monday.

Hundreds of locals braved the rainy weather to watch Scotland take to the training pitch, but not every Tartan Army player was able to complete the morning session.

Indeed, Scotland captain and Liverpool left-back Robertson was forced out of training after physios rushed on to the training field during a warm-up box drill to attend to an ankle issue.

Robertson, 30, suffered with injury issues on international duty earlier this season; in October last year he underwent a shoulder operation that ruled him out for over three months.

Hearts striker Lawrence Shankland also left training early, adding to Scotland's fitness woes as they are already having to cope without Lewis Ferguson, Aaron Hickey, Nathan Patterson, Jacob Brown, Lyndon Dykes and Ben Doak due to injury.

Carver allays Robertson, Shankland injury fears

However, Scotland's No.2 Carver has delivered a positive update on both players and is confident that the duo will be ready to feature in Friday's Euro 2024 opener against host nation Germany at the Allianz Arena.

"Andy Robertson's fine, it was a precaution really," Carver told the media shortly after Monday's training session. "The ball just caught his ankle and he'll be fine to train tomorrow.

"At this stage we're going to be extra cautious but he's okay, he's fine and he's looking forward to training tomorrow.

"It's never nice [to see] especially with the luck we've had but he's in good form so he's fine."

On Shankland, Carver added: "He had a little bit of a niggle from the other night. He's in that process and he had quite a bit of game time in the two games we played (against Gibraltar and Finland) so we're just protecting him as well.

"Everyone's got their own programme coming back. He's fine, everybody's good."

Meanwhile, Scotland were boosted by the return to training of midfielder Stuart Armstrong after he underwent an individual programme to recover from a muscle injury.

Scotland's Group A opener against Germany on Friday will be followed by encounters against Switzerland on June 19 and Hungary on June 23.
