Leyton Orient edge out Coventry City

Leyton Orient remain two points adrift of Brentford at the top of League One courtesy of a 2-0 win over Coventry City tonight.

Leyton Orient remain two points adrift of Brentford at the summit of the League One table after securing a 2-0 victory over Coventry City at the Matchroom Stadium.

Russell Slade's men, who have a game in hand, stayed within striking distance of the Bees after second-half strikes from Dean Cox and David Mooney proved enough for Orient to claim all three points.

Following a goalless first half, the hosts should have broken the deadlock soon after the restart as the referee signalled for a penalty following Andy Webster's challenge on Chris Dagnall.

However, Kevin Lisbie stepped up to the mark before watching City goalkeeper Joe Murphy save the resulting penalty.

The veteran striker's anguish was minimal as moments later Dean Cox spared his teammate's blushes by opening the scoring, smashing past Murphy from inside the area following Nathan Clarke's long throw.

Steven Pressley's troops almost restored parity in the final 18 minutes through Denzel Slager, only to watch his goal-bound effort palmed away by goalkeeper Eldin Jakupovic.

David Mooney, playing his first game this year, drove toward the opposition half before unleashing a 25-yard strike which found its way into the bottom corner via Murphy's glove to seal the win for Slade's troops.
