Leeds United are reportedly hopeful that the connections that new head coach Jesse Marsch has with former club Red Bull Salzburg will help in their pursuit of midfielder Brenden Aaronson this summer.

Marsch, who won two Austrian top-flight titles with Salzburg between 2019 and 2021, took the reins at Elland Road on Thursday, following the departure of Marcelo Bielsa last weekend.

The American's first job is to ensure that the Whites retain their Premier League status for next season and steer themselves clear of the relegation zone, but he is likely to have one eye on potential additions ahead of this summer's transfer window.

Leeds were strongly linked with Aaronson in January, with bids worth up to £20m rejected by Salzburg, who were keen to keep hold of the 21-year-old as they are still competing in the knockout rounds of the Champions League.

According to the Daily Star, Leeds remain interested in signing Aaronson and compatriot Marsch has expressed his desire to sign the midfielder to the club's chairman Andrea Radrizzani.

Marsch was the man who handed Aaronson his Salzburg debut in 2021 when the player arrived in Austria from MLS outfit Philadelphia Union.

The 18-cap USA international has since made a total of 56 appearances for Die Roten Bullen, scoring 12 goals and registering 14 assists.
