Sam Byram rescues point for Leeds United

A second-half goal from Sam Byram ensures a 1-1 draw for Leeds United against Peterborough United this evening.

A goal from Sam Byram overturned Peterborough United's first-half lead to rescue a point for Leeds United in the Championship this evening.

Both sides made an attacking start to the match, with Michael Tonge and Lee Tomlin testing the keepers early on.

Paddy Kenny was needed to keep out a close-range effort from Dwight Gayle, but the striker got another chance, blasting the ball into the Leeds net inside the opening 15 minutes.

The Posh kept Kenny busy, Tomlin and Michael Bostwick both having efforts on target within five minutes of Gayle's goal.

Neil Warnock made a change at half time, bringing on El-Hadji Diouf in place of Steve Morison, as the home side looked to get back on level terms with their opponents.

The Senegalese forward created two chances within two minutes of the restart, Bostwick clearing his first cross before Robert Olejnik saved a Paul Green effort following a Diouf corner.

Diouf had a chance to grab a goal for himself in the 57th minute, but Bostwick put the ball out for a corner.

Stephen Warnock curled the ball into the six-yard box, allowing Byram to fire the ball in from close range.

Luke Varney thought that he had given the home side the lead 15 minutes from full time, but his goal was ruled out after he was judged to have been in an offside position.

Both sides had plenty of chances to add to the score board, but neither could find a winner.

The result leaves Leeds five points outside the playoff places, while Peterborough remain two points from safety.
