Championship roundup: Cardiff City, Fulham both pick up important wins

Cardiff City continue their charge towards the Premier League with a 3-1 victory over Burton Albion, while Fulham also triumph in Saturday's Championship action.

Cardiff City continued their charge towards the Premier League with a 3-1 victory over struggling Burton Albion in Wales on Saturday afternoon.

Neil Warnock's side currently sit second in the Championship table on 79 points - just three points behind league leaders Wolverhampton Wanderers, who face playoff hopefuls Middlesbrough in the late kickoff.

The Welsh outfit have now won each of their last eight Championship fixtures, and are unbeaten in the league since losing at Queens Park Rangers on New Year's Day.

Fulham, meanwhile, remain in third position in the division courtesy of a 2-0 success over Norwich City, with Stefan Johansen and Tom Cairney both on the scoresheet in the second period.

Elsewhere, Barnsley, who sit just outside the bottom three, could not hold onto a 2-1 lead against Bristol City as they were forced to share the points, while Brentford and Sheffield United played out a 1-1 draw in a match that saw Ryan Woods and Jamal Blackman receive red cards following an altercation in the second period.

Leeds United eased the pressure on under-fire head coach Paul Heckingbottom with a 2-1 win over lowly Bolton Wanderers, which was a result that moved the Whites up to 12th position.

Sheffield Wednesday were the big winners on the afternoon, however, with a 4-1 success over Preston North End at Hillsborough moving the Owls 11 points clear of the relegation zone.

Results in full: Barnsley 2-2 Bristol City, Brentford 1-1 Sheffield United, Cardiff City 3-1 Burton Albion, Leeds United 2-1 Bolton Wanderers, Norwich City 0-2 Fulham, Sheffield Wednesday 4-1 Preston North End
