Good evening! Thank you very much for joining Sports Mole for all of the action from the opening round of the League Cup. It promises to be a very busy night with 32 matches on offer, 30 of which begin exactly an hour from now. We will keep you up to date with all of the major events from every single encounter as 64 teams vie for a place in the second round. Let's start with a look at the games taking place tonight...
The standout fixture tonight sees
MK Dons and
AFC Wimbledon renew their rivalry, which began when the former broke away from the club formerly known as Wimbledon, moving to Milton Keynes to start anew. It is a relatively new rivalry, beginning in the last decade, but it is most certainly a big one for the fans.
In addition to that clash, no fewer than 20 Championship clubs are in action tonight as they look to either build upon or banish the memories of their exploits on the opening day of the new season at the weekend. The likes of
Leeds United, Nottingham Forest, Middlesbrough, Huddersfield Town and Wolverhampton Wanderers - among others - are all looking to join Derby County in the second round tonight.
A full list of all 32 fixtures can be found over to the right of this page, with all but two of them starting at 7.45pm. Bolton Wanderers face Bury and Reading host Newport County in the two late kickoffs tonight, which begin just 15 minutes later than the rest at 8pm.
Right, there are plenty of games to get through on what is sure to be a frantic and exciting night of League Cup action from around the country, so let's waste no time in having a look at some of the more intriguing encounters on show this evening...
OLDHAM VS. MIDDLESBROUGH: League One Oldham will be looking spring an upset against Boro, who got their Championship campaign off to a winning start at the weekend. Boro were shocked in the first round by Accrington Stanley last year, giving Oldham hope that they can pull off a similar result tonight. The hosts drew 2-2 in their first match of the season last weekend. PREDICTION: 1-2.
SHREWSBURY VS. BLACKPOOL: Perhaps the biggest chance of a shock tonight will be at New Meadow as League Two's Shrewsbury host troubled Blackpool. The Tangerines are a club in turmoil at the moment, with a severe lack of players and confusion reigning over the club. They lost to Nottingham Forest on Saturday and are expected to contest another relegation battle this season. Shrewsbury, meanwhile, drew their first match of the season but, despite sitting significantly below their opponents in the football ladder, might fancy their chances tonight. PREDICTION: 1-1 (Shrewsbury win on penalties).
ROTHERHAM VS. FLEETWOOD: Another potential upset, although this time the lower league side does not have home advantage. Rotherham are new boys in the Championship and got off to a losing start courtesy of a 1-0 defeat at the hands of Derby on Saturday. Fleetwood, meanwhile, won their first match of the League One season and could be bidding to join tonight's opponents in the second tier next season. PREDICTION: 1-2.
CHESTERFIELD VS. HUDDERSFIELD: League One's Chesterfield will also be looking to get one over on Championship opposition, and they couldn't have picked a better time to face Huddersfield. The visitors took the unprecedented decision to sack their manager after the first game of the season this weekend, axing Mark Robins following a 4-0 defeat to Bournemouth. There was no such trouble for the hosts, who won their opening game 2-1. PREDICTION: 2-0.
LUTON VS. SWINDON: Luton are finally back in the League Cup following their promotion from the Conference last season. They got life in League Two off to a good start as well, beating Carlisle 1-0 on Saturday. In their way tonight is a Swindon side that also won at the weekend and is looking to match their third-round finish last season. PREDICTION: 1-2.
As you can see from those first five mini-previews, there is plenty of scope for upsets tonight. Giant-killings are always entertaining and, while the biggest sides don't enter this competition until the third round, there are some notable scalps to be claimed tonight.
MK DONS VS. WIMBLEDON: This fixture transcends the desire to simply progress into the second round as two big rivals go head to head. I've already mentioned the history between the two clubs, and at present it is the hosts who will be favourites for this match. They won 4-2 against Gillingham at the weekend and sit second in League One as a result, while Wimbledon could only draw on Saturday and are 10th in League Two as things stand. PREDICTION: 3-2.
SOUTHEND VS. WALSALL: Another potential upset as League Two side Southend host League One's Walsall, who could only draw with Port Vale at the weekend. The hosts, meanwhile, got their campaign off to a winning start by beating Accrington Stanley 1-0. Neither side made it past this stage last season, however. PREDICTION: 1-0.
SHEFF WEDS VS. NOTTS COUNTY: On paper, this one looks fairly straightforward for the Owls, who produced an impressive win over Brighton at the weekend. The Championship side have League One opposition tonight, although Notts County did do well in the competition last season, making Liverpool work very hard to eliminate them in the second round. PREDICTION: 3-1.
TRANMERE VS. NOTTM FOREST: Another game in which the Championship side should get things relatively easily, although Tranmere do boast home advantage. The League Two side drew with York City at the weekend, while Forest, who are heavy favourites to challenge for promotion to the Premier League this season, eased past Blackpool. PREDICTION: 0-2.
LEEDS VS. ACCRINGTON: Leeds have a new owner and a new manager, but their troubles continued at the weekend with a 2-0 defeat to Millwall. Dave Hockaday will be looking to bounce back from that tonight against League Two Accrington, who lost to Southend in their opening match of the season. Victory for the hosts should restore a little bit of confidence, but defeat could be very damaging. PREDICTION: 1-0.
ROCHDALE VS. PRESTON: An all-League One clash sees Rochdale and Preston go head to head for a place in the second round. The hosts were beaten 1-0 by Peterborough at the weekend, while Preston fared a little better by drawing 1-1 with Notts County. This is one of the more evenly-matched encounters tonight, and it could well go beyond the 90 minutes. PREDICTION: 1-2.
PORT VALE VS. HARTLEPOOL: Port Vale will be looking to avoid an upset as they host League Two side Hartlepool tonight. Vale drew 1-1 against Walsall at the weekend to put them in 13th place in League One going into tonight's match, while the visitors were beaten 1-0 by Stevenage. PREDICTION: 2-0
MORECAMBE VS. BRADFORD: Bradford's run to the final of this competition in 2012 will live long in the memory, but they were knocked out in the first hurdle last season. If they want to avoid a repeat of that then they must overcome League Two's frontrunners after the first game of the season, with Morecambe leading the way courtesy of a 3-0 win over Dagenham and Redbridge. Bradford, incidentally, also won at the weekend, overcoming Coventry 3-2. PREDICTION: 2-2 (Bradford win in extra time).
BARNSLEY VS. CREWE: Another all-League One clash as newly-relegated Barnsley host Crewe. The home side did not get off to a good start in League One this weekend, losing 1-0 to Crawley Town to immediately plummet to 20th in their new division. Crewe were also beaten, although they at least managed to score in a 2-1 defeat to Fleetwood. PREDICTION: 2-1.
BLACKBURN VS. SCUNTHORPE: Blackburn will be wary of a shock having been eliminated in the first round at the hands of Carlisle last season, but on paper this should be a straightforward match for Gary Bowyer's men. They drew 1-1 with Cardiff on Friday as the new Football League season got underway, while Scunthorpe were beaten 3-1 by Swindon and sit 23rd in League One at this early stage of the season. PREDICTION: 3-0.
BURTON VS. WIGAN: Wigan are one of the favourites to go up from the Championship this year, but they didn't get off to a great start this weekend as they let a one-goal lead slip before eventually rescuing a 2-2 draw against Reading. Burton had no such trouble holding onto their lead against Oxford to make a good start to their League Two campaign, but it would be a major shock if they were to topple the Latics tonight. PREDICTION: 1-3.
YORK VS. DONCASTER: Recently-relegated Doncaster got off to a great start in their bid to make an immediate return to the Championship, easily beating Yeovil 3-0 to move top of League One after a solitary match. They will be looking for a similar performance against a York side that drew with Tranmere in their League Two season opener on Saturday, and they should have enough to secure the victory. PREDICTION: 0-2.
BRISTOL CITY VS. OXFORD: Bristol City also got off to an impressive start in League One at the weekend, beating fellow promotion hopefuls Sheffield United 2-1. They reached the third round of this competition last season, and will fancy their chances of making it over the first hurdle again tonight. Oxford stand in the way, although the League Two side suffered a 1-0 defeat to Burton at the weekend. PREDICTION: 3-0.
BRIGHTON VS. CHELTENHAM: Brighton's league season didn't get off to a good start as Sami Hyypia saw his side fall to a 1-0 defeat in his first competitive match in charge. He will be hoping for a better time of things tonight, and on paper he should get it against League Two's Cheltenham. However, the visitors did make it into the second round last season and come into the match off the back of a win over Bury on Saturday. PREDICTION: 2-1.
DAGENHAM & REDBRIDGE VS. BRENTFORD: Another League Two vs. Championship clash, although this time the lower league side have the home advantage. Whether that will be enough for Dagenham remains to be seen, although they will surely be low on confidence following a 3-0 defeat to Morecambe on the opening day. Brentford, meanwhile, drew with Charlton to get their season off to a solid, if unspectacular, start. PREDICTION: 1-2.
CHARLTON VS. COLCHESTER: Both of these sides drew their opening matches of the season, although Charlton will be confident of success here having the home advantage and superior league position. The Addicks sit 15th in the Championship after one game, while Colchester are 10th in League One courtesy of a 2-2 draw with Oldham. PREDICTION: 2-0.
CRAWLEY VS. IPSWICH: A potential upset is on the cards here as League One's Crawley host Ipswich off the back of a 1-0 win over newly-relegated Barnsley on Saturday. Ipswich also won against a recently-demoted side, however, beating Fulham 2-1 to get their Championship campaign off to an impressive start. PREDICTION: 1-2.
WOLVES VS. NORTHAMPTON: Wolves began life back in the Championship with a bang, beating 10-man Norwich 1-0 at Molineux. The newly-promoted side are many peoples' dark horses to reach the playoffs this season, and they certainly made a good start to achieving that goal. Northampton, meanwhile, also got off to a winning start in League Two having narrowly secured their Football League status for another year last season. PREDICTION: 4-0.
Right, that is 23 of the 32 games covered, and we are just two minutes from kickoff now. Also on show tonight are: Yeovil vs. Gillingham; Exeter vs. Bournemouth; Stevenage vs. Watford; Plymouth vs. Leyton Orient; Birmingham vs. Cambridge; Portsmouth vs. Peterborough; Millwall vs. Wycombe; Bolton vs. Bury; Reading vs. Newport. A busy night indeed!
KICKOFF: Here we go, then! Carlisle and Derby kicked the League Cup off last night, but the competition has really begun now, with matches starting to get underway around the country. Oldham and Middlesbrough are the first to go, a little prematurely, but they are swiftly followed by a flurry of other games.
GOAL! Bristol City 1-0 Oxford United
That didn't take long, did it?! We're up and running on the goal front courtesy of Bristol City's Joe Bryan, who has given the League Two side the lead against Oxford. What a start from the West Country outfit.
GOAL! Sheffield Wednesday 1-0 Notts County
Another early goal, this time at Hillsborough as Jacques Maghoma gives Sheffield Wednesday the lead against Notts County after just two minutes. Nerves will be settled for the Championship side, who are looking to avoid an upset tonight.
GOAL! Dagenham & Redbridge 0-1 Brentford
So far so good for the Championship sides as Brentford also take an early lead in their match with Dagenham. Stuart Dallas got the goal for the Bees after just four minutes of action.
GOAL! Port Vale 1-0 Hartlepool
Dagenham & Redbridge 0-2 Brentford
GOAL! Luton 1-0 Swindon
CORRECTION: Luton 0-0 Swindon
A flurry of action there as first Williamson puts Port Vale in front against Hartlepool, pouncing onto a loose ball inside the box to convert. Brentford then double their lead thanks to a second from Stuart Dallas, before Luton have a goal ruled out for offside.
GOAL! Port Vale 1-1 Hartlepool
GOAL! Sheffield Wednesday 2-0 Notts County
GOAL! Tranmere 0-1 Nottingham Forest
Immediate response for Hartlepool as Jonathan Franks levels the scores with a fine strike from distance. Sheffield Wednesday have also doubled their lead and hit the crossbar against Dagenham, while Forest lead through new boys Michail Antonio's second in as many matches.
GOAL! Portsmouth 1-0 Peterborough
GOAL! Plymouth 0-1 Leyton Orient
GOAL! Port Vale 2-1 Hartlepool
GOAL! Birmingham 1-0 Cambridge United
Portsmouth take the lead through a low strike from Storey, while Leyton Orient have gone ahead thanks to a thunderbolt from Cox. Elsewhere, the goals keep coming at Vale Park, where the hosts have taken a 2-1 lead after just 14 minutes courtesy of a Williamson strike. Birmingham have also taken the lead courtesy of Clayton Donaldson's cool finish.
GOAL! Dagenham & Redbridge 1-2 Brentford
GOAL! MK Dons 1-0 Wimbledon
Could the comeback be on for Dagenham? They pull a goal back thanks to Porter's first goal for the club. Meanwhile, yet another one goes in for Port Vale, who now lead 3-1 courtesy of Williamson's third of the game, completing his hat-trick in just 18 minutes.
MK Dons have also taken the lead in the big game of the night through Kyle Mcfadzean.
GOAL! Leeds 1-0 Accrington
GOAL! Yeovil 0-1 Gillingham
Leeds have broken the deadlock against Elland Road, with Doukara's smart turn and finish on the edge of the box settling a few nerves. Things aren't going quite so well for Yeovil at Huish Park as they now trail Gillingham courtesy of Brennan Dickenson's goal.
GOAL! Charlton 1-0 Colchester
RED CARD! Magnus Okuonghae (Colchester)
Big drama at the Valley as Colchester have been reduced to 10 men, with skipper Magnus Okuonghae seeing red for a handball. He also gives away a penalty, which Yoni Buyens converts to give his side the lead.
GOAL! Southend 0-1 Walsall
Walsall could be in line to pull off something of a shock here as Benning has given the visitors a lead against Southend. His effort came off the underside of the bar after he was found by Andy Taylor's cross.
GOAL! Oldham 0-1 Middlesbrough
GOAL! Millwall 1-0 Wycombe
GOAL! Wolves 1-0 Northampton
CORRECTION: Wolves 0-0 Northampton
GOAL! Burton 0-1 Wigan
Middlesbrough take the lead in style as Luke Williams blasts a 30-yard strike past the keeper at Oldham. Millwall also have the lead courtesy of Matthew Briggs's goal on his debut, while Wigan make it three Championship goals in quick succession by taking the lead against Burton through Fortune. Wolves, meanwhile, have had a goal disallowed for offside.
GOAL! Dagenham & Redbridge 1-3 Brentford
There are plenty of goals down in Dagenham as Brentford restore their two-goal advantage through Nick Proschwitz. Not a bad start for the new boy.
GOAL! Chesterfield 1-0 Huddersfield
Huddersfield have not enjoyed a good few days, and it could be getting even worse for them as Ritchie Humphreys has given Chesterfield the lead at the Proact Stadium. It was Jones who supplied the cross for the goalscorer, who rose highest to nod into the corner from 12 yards.
GOAL! Barnsley 0-1 Crewe
GOAL! Shrewsbury 1-0 Blackpool
GOAL! Blackburn 0-1 Scunthorpe
GOAL! Bolton 0-1 Bury
GOAL! Reading 1-0 Newport
How about that for an unlikely sequence of goals? First Crewe take the lead against Barnsley through Billy Waters, before Shrewsbury, Bury and Scunthrope all take the lead against Championship opposition. We could be in line for a number of shocks there. Reading restore some sort of order by breaking the deadlock against Newport through a nice lob from Pavel Pogrebnyak, though.
GOAL! Birmingham 1-1 Cambridge
Another surprising goal as Cambridge United level the scores against Birmingham. It was a lovely strike from Ryan Donaldson, who beat a couple of players before firing the ball past Colin Doyle.
GOAL! Leeds 2-0 Accrington
GOAL! Plymouth 0-2 Leyton Orient
GOAL! Bristol City 1-1 Oxford United
CORRECTION: Bristol City 1-0 Oxford United
Things are looking a bit brighter for Leeds right now as Doukara shows some good skill and an impressive finish to grab his second of the night and double his side's lead. Leyton Orient have also extended their advantage over Plymouth courtesy of Baudry's headed finish, while Oxford become the third team tonight to have had a goal ruled out for offside.
GOAL! Rochdale 0-1 Preston
Preston break the deadlock against League One rivals Rochdale, and it is a fine solo effort from Andy Little, who beat his man before flicking the ball over Lillis from close range. That is his first goal for the club in his 100th appearance.
GOAL! Chesterfield 2-0 Huddersfield
Things go from bad to worse for troubled Huddersfield as Chesterfield double their advantage right on the stroke of half time. It was Banks who got the goal to send the League One side well on their way to an upset against their Championship opposition.
GOAL! Dagenham & Redbridge 2-3 Brentford
GOAL! Plymouth 1-2 Leyton Orient
GOAL! Burton 1-1 Wigan
The game of the day could well be taking place in Dagenham right now as the hosts make it 3-2 just before half time courtesy of a dink from Ashley Chambers. Plymouth have also given themselves a lifeline in the dying stages of the first half, halving the deficit thanks to Reuben Reid's strike at the second time of asking. Burton increase their own chances of an upset as well thanks to a late equaliser against Wigan by Knowles.
HALF TIME: All 30 of the 7.45pm kickoffs have now entered half time following a breathless opening 45 minutes. I said it would be busy, and we certainly haven't been disappointed. A number of games are intriguing poised still, and we should be in for an even more exciting second half.
Of course, there are still two matches going on as Bury surprisingly lead Bolton and Reading are ahead against Newport. Those games both kicked off at 8pm, so should be going into the break just as the rest are emerging for the second 45 minutes.
In the meantime, let's take a look at the half-time scores in the 30 matches that have gone into the break already...
HALF-TIME SCORES (1/3): Barnsley 0-1 Crewe; Birmingham 1-1 Cambridge United; Blackburn 0-1 Scunthorpe; Brighton 0-0 Cheltenham; Bristol City 1-0 Oxford United; Burton 1-1 Wigan; Charlton 1-0 Colchester; Chesterfield 2-0 Huddersfield; Crawley Town 0-0 Ipswich; Dagenham & Redbridge 2-3 Brentford...
HALF-TIME SCORES (2/3): Exeter 0-0 Bournemouth; Leeds 2-0 Accrington; Luton 0-0 Swindon; Millwall 1-0 Wycombe; MK Dons 1-0 Wimbledon; Morecambe 0-0 Bradford; Oldham 0-1 Middlesbrough; Plymouth 1-2 Leyton Orient; Port Vale 3-1 Hartlepool; Portsmouth 1-0 Peterborough...
HALF-TIME SCORES (3/3): Rochdale 0-1 Preston; Rotherham 0-0 Fleetwood; Sheffield Wednesday 2-0 Notts County; Shrewsbury 1-0 Blackpool; Southend 0-1 Walsall; Stevenage 0-0 Watford; Tranmere 0-1 Nottingham Forest; Wolves 0-0 Northampton; Yeovil 0-1 Gillingham; York 0-0 Doncaster.
As you can see from those scorelines, there are plenty of shocks in store tonight, with a number of lower league teams in very good positions. The individual performance of that opening 45 minutes has to go to Port Vale's Williamson, who netted a hat-trick within 18 minutes to help his side into a 3-1 lead over Hartlepool.
Right, we're back underway in a number of the 7.45pm kickoffs now, and the rest are sure to follow soon enough. Let the goals flow once again! Who will make it through to the second round of the League Cup?
GOAL! Rochdale 0-2 Preston
What a start to the second half for Preston! Within two minutes, they double their lead over Rochdale to put themselves in a really commanding position. Neil Kilkenny was the man who got the goal, volleying the ball past Lillis from the edge of the box in the all-League One clash.
All but two of the 7.45pm kickoffs are now back underway, while the two matches that began at 8pm have gone into half time with no further score from the last update.
GOAL! Oldham 0-2 Middlesbrough
Middlesbrough waste no time in doubling their lead against Oldham, with Grant Leadbitter getting the goal to make it 2-0 just three minutes after the restart. That could very well be enough for the Championship side to reach the second round.
Incidentally, we do have in-depth live coverage of the biggest match of the night between MK Dons and Wimbledon. The hosts currently lead that game 1-0, but Wimbledon are far from being out of it. You can find our commentary from that match by
clicking here.
GOAL! Exeter 0-1 Bournemouth
GOAL! MK Dons 2-0 Wimbledon
GOAL! Stevenage 0-1 Watford
GOAL! Yeovil 1-1 Gillingham
GOAL! Burton 2-1 Wigan
GOAL! Charlton 2-0 Colchester
A big flurry of goals there as first Bournemouth take the lead through a Bennett own goal before MK Dons double their advantage against arch-rivals Wimbledon. Watford have also taken the lead, while Yeovil are now level pegging with Gillingham. The big story comes for Burton, however, who have taken the lead against Wigan against the odds. Elsewhere, Charlton double their lead against 10-man Colchester.
GOAL! Bristol City 1-1 Oxford
GOAL! Luton 1-0 Swindon
GOAL! Yeovil 1-2 Gillingham
GOAL! Dagenham & Redbridge 3-3 Brentford
GOAL! Wolves 0-1 Northampton
GOAL! Chesterfield 2-1 Huddersfield
GOAL! Charlton 3-0 Colchester
GOAL! Port Vale 3-2 Hartlepool
The goals are really flying in now! Gillingham have immediately regained the lead, while Luton and - most surprisingly of all - Northampton have also gone ahead in their respective matches. Oxford, meanwhile, have equalised, as have Dagenham, who pull their match back to a thrilling 3-3. Hartlepool and Huddersfield have both given themselves hope by pulling a goal back each, but Colchester are now all but out as Charlton have made it 3-0 at the Valley.
GOAL! Oldham 0-3 Middlesbrough
GOAL! Port Vale 4-2 Hartlepool
GOAL! Wolves 0-2 Northampton
Middlesbrough are now surely through to the second round as they go 3-0 up through Kike, while Port Vale are almost there themselves having restored their two-goal advantage courtesy of a Michael Brown header. Northampton, meanwhile, are in dreamland having doubled their advantage against Wolves at the Molineux through Toney. I certainly did not see that one coming!
GOAL! Wolves 1-2 Northampton
Did I speak too soon? Wolves pull a goal back against the Cobblers courtesy of an emphatic Dicko strike into the roof of the net. There have also been a flurry of red cards around the country in the second half, with Millwall, Nottingham Forest and Yeovil all being reduced to 10 men since the restart.
GOAL! Sheffield Wednesday 3-0 Notts County
GOAL! Plymouth 2-2 Leyton Orient
GOAL! Wolves 2-2 Northampton
Unbelievable scenes at Molineux as Wolves restore parity with a quickfire comeback. Ricketts bent a 25-yard effort past the keeper to make it four goals in eight minutes in that match, and the sides are now locked at 2-2. Plymouth have also completed their own comeback to make it 2-2 against Leyton Orient, with Reuben Reid getting his second of the night. There is unlikely to be a comeback at Hillsborough, however, as Wednesday have made it 3-0 against Notts County courtesy of a Nuhiu header.
What a spell that was at Molineux, where Wolves and Northampton may be making a late claim for match of the night. Four goals in eight minutes, with the Cobblers going to up only for the hosts to peg them back in double quick time. It has been a frantic second half all over so far, but it's all just gone a little quiet in the last couple of minutes. The calm before the storm, I suspect...
While the goals have somewhat dried up, here is some more information on those red cards I mentioned earlier. Matthew Briggs saw red for Millwall for a second yellow card, Michael Mancienne also picked up two bookings to receive his marching orders for Forest, while Yeovil's Seth Nana Twumasi was shown a straight red for a foul on Gillingham's Luke Norris.
We're coming up to the final 15 minutes of most of the matches now, and you can be sure that this lull in goalscoring won't last for that long. Half an hour still remains in the two late kickoffs, which are as they were at half time.
GOAL! Wolves 2-3 Northampton
My word, yet another twist in the tale at Molineux as Northampton Town regain the lead! Lawson D'Ath gets the goal, looping his header over the keeper and in. Incredible scenes, and what a second half the two sides are playing out.
GOAL! Chesterfield 3-1 Huddersfield
Chesterfield have regained their two-goal lead over Huddersfield courtesy of a Doyle tap-in after Roberts' shot was trickling towards the goal. This really is a bad spell for Huddersfield, who are enduring a nightmare start to the season.
GOAL! Port Vale 5-2 Hartlepool
Port Vale are all but through to the second round courtesy of a fifth goal against Hartlepool. This time it is Pope who gets the goal, making the most of a loose ball in the area after Flinders failed to hold on to a shot.
GOAL! Brighton 1-0 Cheltenham
Brighton have finally broken the deadlock as Dunk nods in at the far post to give Sami Hyypia his first competitive goal in charge of the club.
GOAL! Southend 1-2 Walsall
GOAL! Barnsley 0-2 Crewe
GOAL! Bristol City 1-2 Oxford United
GOAL! Leeds 2-1 Accrington
GOAL! Port Vale 6-2 Hartlepool
GOAL! Luton 1-2 Swindon
GOAL! Chesterfield 3-2 Huddersfield
GOAL! Charlton 4-0 Colchester
GOAL! Brighton 2-0 Cheltenham
A late flurry of goals sees Walsall, Oxford, Leeds and Swindon get late goals that could prove to be winners, while Crewe, Port Vale, Brighton and Charlton have all but confirmed their places in the second round.
GOAL! York 0-1 Doncaster
GOAL! Dagenham & Redbridge 4-4 Brentford
GOAL! Chesterfield 3-3 Huddersfield
RED CARD! Gaetano Berardi (Leeds)
The full-time whistles are starting to sound across the country, but there is plenty more action to come with a number of games going to extra time. There has been big drama in Chesterfield and Dagenham respectively, where late goals in those high-scoring encounters have seemingly forced an extra 30 minutes of action at least.
RED CARD! Luke Rooney (Luton)
GOAL! MK Dons 3-1 Wimbledon
Tubbs scores from the spot with the last kick of the game as Wimbledon fall to a 3-1 defeat to rivals MK Dons, who progress into the second round fairly comfortably.
GOAL! Reading 2-0 Newport
Nick Blackman has surely just confirmed Reading's place in the second round courtesy of a fine solo effort to double his side's lead over Newport. We're entering the final few minutes of that match.
GOAL! Chesterfield 3-4 Huddersfield
GOAL! Birmingham 2-1 Cambridge United
What a comeback from HUddersfield, who looked to be down and out at one point this evening. They have now made it 4-3 in extra time thanks to another goal from Nahki Wells. Birmingham, meanwhile, have one foot in the second round now having taken an extra-time lead over Cambridge through Paul Caddis. They now just need to hold out to avoid an upset.
GOAL! Dagenham & Redbridge 4-5 Brentford
The match of the night simply has to be Dagenham vs. Brentford, and it isn't over yet. Montell Moore puts his side back into the lead in the seventh minute of extra time following Dagenham's 90th-minute equaliser. What a game.
GOAL! Chesterfield 3-5 Huddersfield
GOAL! Reading 2-1 Newport County
Chesterfield and Huddersfield are making quite a bid for the match of the night award as well, however. The latter have now taken a two-goal lead and are 5-3 ahead courtesy of a Lolley strike. Meanwhile, Newport have pulled a goal back against Reading, but it looks like being too little too late.
GOAL! Reading 3-1 Newport County
GOAL! Dagenham & Redbridge 5-5 Brentford
Oh my word, the drama keeps on coming in Dagenham! The hosts once again pull things back level through Jamie Cureton, who makes it 5-5 (yes, 5-5!) in the 10th minute of extra time. Reading, meanwhile, restore their two-goal lead straight away and are now through to the second round.
GOAL! Plymouth 2-3 Leyton Orient
Plymouth battle back from two goals down in normal time, and now they will have to launch another comeback as Leyton Orient move 3-2 ahead in extra time. It was Vincelot who got the goal, ghosting in to head home a Cox cross.
Half time in extra time is now coming around for most of the matches, and they have 15 minutes left, plus penalties if necessary. We have seen some unbelievable action so far tonight, and I'm sure there will be some more drama in the closing stages.
GOAL! Bolton 1-1 Bury
GOAL! Birmingham 3-1 Cambridge United
GOAL! Rotherham 1-0 Fleetwood
Speaking of drama in the closing stages, Bolton have scored a late, late penalty to force extra time against Bury, saving themselves from a major upset through Craig Davies's spot kick. Birmingham have extended their lead through Mark Duffy's strike and now seem destined for the second round, while Rotherham have finally broken the deadlock against Fleetwood courtesy of Derbyshire's penalty.
GOAL! Plymouth 3-3 Leyton Orient
Plymouth have managed to come from behind yet again to restore parity against Leyton Orient! It looks like McHugh who got the final touch to Mellor's strike, which appeared to be going wide.
So, we have seven matches still going on in extra time tonight and, as it stands, four of them will be going to penalties. We have seen just about everything tonight, though, so don't rule out more late goals to change that.
GOAL! Crawley 1-0 Ipswich
Crawley could be in line for an upset now as they finally break the deadlock against Championship side Ipswich. It was McLeod with the goal, tapping in a poacher's finish following a bit of confusion in the box. Ipswich have 10 minutes to avoid an upset now.
GOAL! Bolton 2-1 Bury
GOAL! Bolton 3-1 Bury
GOAL! Dagenham & Redbridge 6-5 Brentford
GOAL! Bolton 3-2 Bury
Incredible scenes at the Reebok Stadium, where Neil Danns has scored twice in quick succession for Bolton, although the first one may well have been an own goal. However, Bury respond instantly through McNulty's goal to keep the match alive. Meanwhile, Dagenham have launched their game into the realms of the ridiculous by making it 6-5 in the dying stages of extra time through Hemmings. Unbelievable.
FULL TIME: Rotherham 1-0 Fleetwood
GOAL! Dagenham & Redbridge 6-6 Brentford
I promise you I'm not lying here - I couldn't even make this up! Brentford have just equalised in stoppage time of extra time to make it 6-6! A 12-goal thriller in the League Cup, and we still have penalties to come it seems. That is presuming there won't be anymore late drama, but that is certainly not a foregone conclusion right now.
FULL TIME: Chesterfield 3-5 Huddersfield
I had almost forgotten about that little eight-goal thriller that saw Huddersfield come from behind to eventually beat Chesterfield 5-3 and advance into the second round.
FULL TIME: Crawley 1-0 Ipswich
Plymouth and Leyton Orient will go to extra time in what has been another pulsating encounter. I promise you we will get to everyone who has gone through so far, but there has been so much action that there hasn't been any time to summarise things so far!
FULL TIME: Birmingham 3-1 Cambridge United
Dagenham vs. Brentford and Plymouth vs. Leyton Orient are the two matches that have gone to penalties so far, but remember that Bolton and Bury are still playing, with the Championship side leading 3-2.
Both Plymouth and Leyton Orient have scored their opening spot kicks, although River only just squeezed his in for the hosts.
The perfection continues at Home Park as both teams convert their second penalties, but then Sawyer sees his spot kick saved by McCormick, giving the hosts the advantage. Over at Victoria Road, meanwhile, Dagenham missed their first penalty while Brentford scored.
Advantage Argyle as they score their third penalty. McAnuff responds for Orient to make it 3-3, but the hosts have a spot kick in hand. Brentford have scored all three of their penalties now, and the Daggers are on the verge of elimination having missed twice.
Plymouth had the chance to win it through Banton, but his penalty was tipped onto the bar by Woods. They go into sudden death at Home Park...

Bolton become the latest team to book their place in the second round of the League Cup at the end of a remarkable night of action. We saw a 12-goal thriller decided on penalties, two matches with eight goals, a large number of late strikes and plenty more drama besides. It really was an incredible night of football tonight - the domestic season is well and truly back!
Right, that is all we have time for this evening! Thank you very much for joining Sports Mole for one of the most action-packed nights of football that you could ever wish to see. In all, we saw 102 goals in 32 matches - an average of more than three per game. A total of 32 teams have now booked their place in the second round of the league cup, and more will follow tomorrow night, so join us again for that. From me, though, it is good bye for now!
