Atalanta BC edge past 10-man Lazio

Atalanta BC beat Lazio 1-0 in their Serie A match at the Stadio Olimpico in Rome.

Atalanta BC have beaten Lazio 1-0 in their Serie A clash at the Stadio Olimpico in Rome, with Antonio Candreva seeing red for the home side.

Candreva had an early sight of goal for Lazio, but his long-range strike was saved by Andrea Consigli.

Abdoulay Konko nearly gave his team the lead midway through the first half, but he saw his cross come back off the bar.

Lazio came close again through Candreva, when the midfielder's free kick was punched clear by Consigli.

Candreva was proving to be his side's biggest threat and he drilled a shot wide of the post just before half time.

On the hour mark Atalanta took the lead through Maximiliano Moralez, who reacted quickly to poke home after Marcelo Estigarribia's header was parried by Federico Marchetti.

Lazio's hopes of getting back into the game took a blow four minutes later when Candreva was sent off for a second yellow card.

Moralez had a great chance to score a second for his side soon after when he was picked out in the box, but Marchetti was out quickly to block his low effort.

Carlos Carmona should have found the net for his side in injury time, but he fired over the bar when well placed, as the visitors held on to claim the three points.
