Mick McCarthy: 'Players can fight for contracts'

Ipswich Town manager Mick McCarthy says that beginning contract talks with his players is the last thing on his mind.

Ipswich Town manager Mick McCarthy has revealed that he has no plans to discuss contracts with members of the current squad.

A number of players including Andy Drury and Lee Martin will come to the end of their deals once the season comes to a close but the former Wolverhampton Wanderers boss has urged his team to "fight" to stay at the club.

"I'm cool with what's going on," McCarthy told BBC Radio Suffolk. "Let everyone fight for positions, let everyone fight for contracts. Contracts for next season are not really concerning me yet."

The Tractor Boys are currently five points above the relegation zone in the Championship table.
