Mick McCarthy challenges Ipswich Town players to replace David McGoldrick

Ipswich Town manager Mick McCarthy hopes that one of his players will replace David McGoldrick's goals after the striker picked up a knee ligament injury.

Ipswich Town manager Mick McCarthy has said that he wants one of his players to replace David McGoldrick's goals for the remainder of the season.

The former Nottingham Forest man, who has scored 16 goals in 34 games for Ipswich this term, damaged knee ligaments in last weekend's goalless draw with Blackpool at Portman Road.

"It's devastating for Didz himself because he's had a fantastic season," McCarthy told Ipswich's official website.

"It's obviously a big blow for the team as well but we have to get on with it. These are the trials and tribulations you get as a manager, as a coach.

"Someone else has to step up to the plate now and become a hero."

Ipswich travel to Championship leaders Leicester City on Saturday.
