Half-Time Report: Ipswich Town, Cardiff City play out goalless opening period

Ipswich Town and Cardiff City play out a goalless first half at Portman Road, as City keeper David Marshall makes two saves to keep the scores level.

Ipswich Town and Cardiff City have played out a goalless opening half at Portman Road.

Ipswich made an early penalty claim as Daryl Murphy fell to the turf inside the Cardiff box, but the referee was not interested.

Murphy then saw his 16th-minute header from Kevin Bru's cross pushed onto the crossbar by City keeper David Marshall, and Freddie Sears fired over the rebound.

Town keeper Dean Gerken then made a stop at the other end as he directed Aron Gunnarsson's drive out for a corner.

Marshall once more kept the scores level with 25 minutes played, making a point-blank save from a Sears cross that was sent rapidly towards goal by Bluebirds defender Sean Morrison.
