Hull City boss Steve Bruce is reportedly eyeing a move to sign Stoke City defender Geoff Cameron.
The Tigers have struggled to add defenders this summer, having seen attempted moves for Tottenham Hotspur's Michael Dawson and Arsenal's Carl Jenkinson fail.
Bruce has now turned his attention to the USA international and is prepared to bid £4.5m to land the 29-year-old.
A source told The Mirror: "Steve wants to bring in a defender who knows his way around the top flight, but has been frustrated in his efforts to get a deal done.
"Cameron looks a good fit because he has played over 70 games for Stoke since joining from MLS side Houston Dynamo two years ago.
"And his versatility is a big attraction, too. He can perform equally well as a right-back or in central defence - and those are the two positions Hull are looking to bolster ahead of the big kickoff in two weeks' time."
Hull drew the first leg of their Europa League qualifying match against Trencin on Thursday.
