Preview: Grimsby Town vs. Wealdstone - prediction, team news, lineups

Sports Mole previews Saturday's National League clash between Grimsby Town and Wealdstone, including predictions, team news and possible lineups.

After suffering consecutive defeats, Grimsby Town will be aiming to get their season back on track when they welcome Wealdstone to Blundell Park.

Although the visitors sit in 19th place, they currently have a nine-point buffer to the relegation zone.

Grimsby Town are experiencing a poor run of results having won just once in their last eight games in all competitions.

Despite taking the lead last weekend against Bromley thanks to Jordan Maguire-Drew's opener, Grimsby fell to a 2-1 defeat with George Alexander and Jude Arthurs finding the net for the Ravens.

The Mariners were unable to respond in midweek, with Ollie Palmer scoring for Wrexham to condemn Paul Hurst's side to another defeat.

Saturday's hosts have won just once in their last eight league matches, largely due to a struggling forward line that has failed to score in four of those contests.

Despite their recent struggles, Grimsby will be looking to make the most of home advantage having won eight of their 12 home league games.

Wealdstone currently hold a lowly position in the league, but can take comfort from the fact that they are nine points clear of danger.

Although chances of being embroiled in a relegation battle are slim, Wealdstone could be pulled closer to the drop zone if their current poor run of form continues.

The Stones have won just once in their last seven league games, but they did add another point to their tally on Tuesday after playing out a goalless draw with Notts County.

Despite claiming a point in midweek, Stuart Maynard will be concerned that his side have now failed to score in nine league games this term.

Only King's Lynn Town and Dover Athletic have scored fewer goals than the Stones this term, with Saturday's visitors requiring an improvement in the final third if they are to climb up the National League table.

Team News

Grimsby will be without the services of Maguire-Drew, who is ruled out of the weekend encounter due to a calf problem.

After joining on loan from Aston Villa, Arjan Raikhy made his debut for the Mariners against Wrexham - featuring as a second half substitute - and the 19-year-old is expected to be on the bench once again for Saturday's encounter.

Ryan Taylor will continue to lead the line for the hosts as he looks to add to his six-goal league tally for the season.

Wealdstone are without the services of Rhys Browne and Andrew Eleftheriou due to injury issues.

Jack Cook, meanwhile, is a doubt after coming off in the second half in midweek with a groin problem.

Maynard welcomed David Sesay back into the matchday squad for the midweek encounter after the Sierra Leone international returned from the Africa Cup of Nations, and the 23-year-old is expected to be among the substitutes on Saturday.

Grimsby Town possible starting lineup:
Crocombe; Smith, Waterfall, Pearson, Crookes; Coke, Fox, McAtee; Sousa, Abrahams, Taylor

Wealdstone possible starting lineup:
Wickens; McAvoy, Okimo, Stevens, Mundle-Smith; Charles, Buse, Cooper; Elito, Mascoll, Umerah

We say: Grimsby Town 1-0 Wealdstone

Despite struggling in recent weeks, we think that Grimsby could claim all three points on Saturday as they look to take advantage of a Wealdstone side that have lost their last four away games in all competitions.
