Tom Nichols pleased to silence Exeter City doubters

Match-winner Tom Nichols says that Exeter City putting a four-game winless run behind them in Wednesday's meeting with Cambridge has helped to silence a few critics.

Tom Nichols has suggested that Exeter City's triumph over Cambridge United has "answered a few critics" following their recent winless run.

The Grecians put four games without a victory in all competitions behind them as they came out on top 1-0 at St James Park on Wednesday night.

Match-winner Nichols, who scored the only goal of the game nine minutes in, was delighted to see his side get back to winning ways in order to climb into the top half of the League Two table.

"I thought we played really well," the Exeter Express & Echo quotes him as saying. "It was 1-0, but it could have been more than that. Throughout the whole team, man for man, we were brilliant and I thought we thoroughly deserved the win.

"I think this result is massive, you could just tell in the changing room after the game. This week it was a little bit flat with the boys, because nobody likes losing games at the end of the day, but everyone has perked right up now.

"We played exactly how we wanted to. We maybe could have got a few more goals, but if we keep playing like that they will come. However, I think we have answered a few critics."

Exeter play host to Notts County in their next league outing on Saturday afternoon.
