Roberto Martinez hopeful over Leighton Baines return

Everton boss Roberto Martinez is confident that Leighton Baines will return to fitness for Saturday's Premier League encounter with Norwich City.

Everton manager Roberto Martinez has revealed that Leighton Baines should be fit for Saturday's Premier League encounter with Norwich City at Goodison Park.

The left-back was forced to miss last weekend's 4-0 victory over Queens Park Rangers in the FA Cup due to a back problem.

"Leighton Baines was just a back spasm and he is recovering as we expected so I don't think he's going to be too far from being able to train," Sky Sports News quotes Martinez as saying.

"I would say Leighton will be back in training on Thursday. We'll then have to assess him. Back spasms can be cleared completely or they can leave you a little bit with a lack of mobility.

"Any player needs to be 100% to be able to play and to be considered to play, so we'll assess Leighton on Thursday, see how he is and take it from there."

Everton head into the match against Norwich in fifth place in the Premier League table.
