Everton manager Roberto Martinez has described Ross Barkley as a "massive part" of the squad following the midfielder's decision to sign a new deal with the club.
Barkley, 20, penned a four-year contract extension at Goodison Park on Tuesday afternoon.
The youngster, who joined the Toffees at the age of 11, scored seven goals in 38 games last season.
"It is a four-year deal which reflects his new role and his development. This is as big news as we could get," Martinez told reporters.
"He is still a young man but as it stands he is a massive part of our squad. Ross Barkley is the type of player everyone wants to pay to see."
Barkley has won nine caps for the England national team.
