Everton to assess Leighton Baines injury

Everton manager Roberto Martinez says that defender Leighton Baines will be assessed after picking up knee and calf injuries against Southampton.

Roberto Martinez has said that Leighton Baines's injury "shouldn't be too bad" after he was forced off early during this afternoon's defeat to Southampton.

The defender was replaced by Luke Garbutt late on in the 2-0 loss at St Mary's after struggling with his knee and calf.

The manager told the club's website: "We will assess Leighton Baines and see if it's a serious injury or not. He was feeling his knee and his calf a little bit, we will assess him but it shouldn't be too bad."

The defeat has left Everton fifth in the table.
