Alan Shearer desperate to see England improvement at World Cup

Alan Shearer admits that he is hoping to see England improve by playing attacking football at the World Cup.

Former England striker Alan Shearer has admitted that he is just hoping to see the current squad show signs of improvement at the World Cup.

Roy Hodgson's side begin their Group D campaign against Italy on Saturday night, and Shearer is hopeful that the team will adopt a positive approach throughout the tournament as they look to reach the latter stages.

"I just want to see us improve," Shearer told BBC Radio 5 live "I want to see us attack. I want to see us play with a bit of pace and passion.

"Do I think we can win it? No, I don't. If we can get to a quarter-final in an attack minded way, I think that's pretty good."

England will also meet Uruguay and Costa Rica in Group D.
